Series: Hooked
Get hooked on a girl named Fred...

HE said: Fred Oday is a girl? Why is a girl taking my best friends spot on the boy's varsity golf team?

SHE said: Can I seriously do this? Can I join the boys' team? Everyone will hate me - especially Ryan Berenger.

HE said: Coach expects me to partner with Fred on the green? That is crazy bad. Fred's got to go - especially now that I can't get her out of my head. So not happening.

SHE said: Ryan can be nice, when he's not being a jerk. Like the time he carried my golf bag. But the girl from the rez and the spoiled rich boy from the suburbs? So not happening.

But there's no denying that things are happening as the girl with the killer swing takes on the boy with the killer smile...

This is not what I expected. Hooked by Liz Fichera seems like playful, teasing, fun book, but what I got was an emotional read with golf lessons. I really liked it a lot, but if I look from the romance perspective, it was a bit lacking in love, and more focused on the drama side.

Fred is a Native American girl who is selected to be a part of the Boy's Golf Team, and she is their best player. I loved Fred, her name is actually Fredrika which is so beautiful. She reminded me of Leah from Such a Rush by Jennifer Echols, both of these girls come from a not-so-good background, and had to struggle with their lives, but the one things that's important to them is there passion, in Fred's case it was Golf. She never had any professional training, she learned by observing other people play in the country club, and just adapted to it. Fred is such a strong, courageous person, and doesn't let anyone's catty remarks hurt her.

Ryan, on the other hand, comes from a well off family, and is genuinely a very nice guy. Initially he was angry at Fred for taking his best friends position on the team, but once he saw that she was good with her game, he came along. Ryan is a very polite person, he didn't argue a lot, and just goes along with what his friends are doing. At times I was mad at him because he didn't stand up, and fight for what he wanted. I hated his best friend, and I wished Ryan would have smacked him much sooner, it went on way to long, but I'm so happy with how things ended.

The only thing that disappointed me throughtout the book was that we didn't get to see Fred & Ryan as a couple. They shared one amazing day which I truly loved, and then they were seperated for most parts of the book. That is where the romance lacking part comes from, I wish there were more dates or more special moments. Fred's part were so emotional, and it really touched me. She was bullied because of her heritage, and her being the only girl golfer, but I'm so glad that she didn't indulge in the comeback, and made it more messier. She did what she loved, and didn't bothered with idiots. I simply adored Fred.

Hooked by Liz Fichera is very enjoyable read about two people from different world who connect through Golf. After finishing this book, I can safely say that now I won't make fun of people who play golf because it is a very tough game. Humor aside, I'm glad to have read this book, Liz Fichera did a brilliant job with the story, and I'm looking forward to reading more from her. Hooked is highly recommended, and a must read for contemporary romance readers.

    * A Copy was provided by the Publisher and Netgalley for  an honest review. (Thank You!)*

    1. Great review!! I agree with a lot of what you said. I wish there was more romance in the story. They only had one date and then suddenly they were heartbroken and there was loads of drama. It seemed a bit weird to me that they were so upset after they only had one date. That's not really enough time to get attached to each other!

But it was still an interesting book—just different from what I expected! I loved the golf!

    2. reading it right now. okay . less romance . interesting

    3. I read this too, and I was surprised that it wasn't what I expected either. I am not a fan of golf, but the author did a good job at not making it boring. I liked that both Fred and Ryan had family issues, but I was surprised by the seriousness of the bullying Fred received.

    4. Although I do not read a lot of contemporary YA, I have to say that this one has caught my attention. Thanks for your review.

    5. I completely agree with you! I also really enjoyed Hooked, but I wish the romance with Fred and Ryan had been longer. Great review! :)

    6. I got approved for this on NetGalley but I haven't read it yet. It sounds really good but I'll admit I'm a bit disappointed there isn't much a romance aspect to the book. Great review :)

    7. Aww this sounded so cute! I was actually put off of this book because of the golf aspect. I was afraid it would be a little too much golfing for me >.< It sounds like the characters are really well developed but it's sad that they were apart for most of the book. Books like this I want the romance to be really compelling and, well, the characters need to kind of be together for that. Glad you still enjoyed it! Great review!

    8. I have a copy of Hooked from Netgalley, but I haven't read it, yet. I don't know that I'll enjoy it as much as I thought I would after seeing your review. But we shall see. Great review, I feel like I have some more insight into this book.
