Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

    Review:

Want to know what's the best sequel I've ever read? That's right! This one right here! Not because it has the most unique and creative mythology ever. Or the most engaging storyline. Or the most entertaining and realistic cast of characters. Sweet Peril is the Best Sequel I have ever read simply because I have never been more immersed in a story and really felt like being a part of this strong group of people in a very long time. The last book that made me feel that way was Vampire Academy and that series was brilliant! Sweet Peril was such an amazing surprise, I had no expectation from it because the first book was okay for me and I thought that this might be a passerby series (you know the kind, we all have it), but boy was I wrong in my judgement. Sweet Peril simply blew my mind with it's strategic storyline and fleshed out characters. Love!

Anna is not the nicest girl anymore as far as appearances go. She has changed her look completely and is now known as the party girl. Shocker! I can't even picture her like that, she is an angel for god's sake. But she pulled that image of so well and we all know that she was pretending in order to "work". If you are familiar with the first book then you know the kind of work these characters have to do in order to please their parents and survive. But that is changing! There's a new prophecy that pinned Anna as the savior and the leader of all the Nephlims who want change in the system and are sick of spreading the sins. In Sweet Peril, Anna is building an army of these people and finding ally's around the world. We see her traveling and meeting new characters and overall, making connections and being stronger and more knowledgeable than ever. Anna was the star of the book and I loved her.

Not only is she smart and patient, Anna is a very focused girl. She know what she wants or WHO she wants and she isn't backing down. Kaiden was a jerk in the first book and when everyone was fangirling over him, I was actually more interested in the other guy, Kope. In fiction, Kaiden is who I'd go for but in reality I want someone like Kope. He is mature, controlled, observant and a very focused guy. If you're looking for a well matched pair, then that would be Anna and Kope but she loves Kaiden and a heart wants what a heart wants. What I loved the most in Sweet Peril was how Wendy Higgins handled the love triangle, if you want to call it that. Both guys had their stories straight, there wasn't any misunderstanding, the girl wasn't stupid or confused. Do you see the pattern? It wasn't a cliched love triangle, it was mature and the sequence of events made sense. And in the end, both guys got a girl who was perfect for them and I can't wait to see how it goes on from there.

I have nothing negative to say about Sweet Peril. Well maybe the covers could have been different than the generic pretty-girl-and-the-hot-guy, but that's it. There wasn't anything I would have changed in the story or any decision I would not make, I feel like everything that happened in Sweet Peril is what I would have done if I were at Anna's place. I don't know why I'm surprised by the fact that the characters weren't stupid or silly, but that's what I've experienced most of the time, and it's pretty amazing when once in a while you read about someone who is matured and makes the right decision. Not just Anna, everyone was so smart and special in the story and they each had an important role to play. I can't wait to read Sweet Reckoning! I don't know how the author will manage to wrap up the story in one book because I feel like there is so much more to discover in it's world, but you bet I'm going to devour it that day it's out! Love Wendy Higgins!

YES AMAN! That's part of what I loved so much about this book too! The love triangle didn't even really have time to form before Anna shut it down, and I just wanted to hug her for it. And Kope didn't add any extra drama when she did say know. LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH! I'm so glad you loved it too, this is one of my all-time favorite series:)

      1. The love triangle was handled so well, it didn't even feel like one. And yay for Anna! She didn't give up on Kaiden, even though he was acting like she didn't matter. I love a girl who follows her heart. This is turning out to be my favorite series too! I'm dying to get my hands on Sweet Reckoning!

    3. Eep I so have to read this series! I got the first one a month or 2 ago and I haven't read it yet but the reviews for this one tells me I'm missing something awesome! >.< It's also great when a sequel if just as good as the first if not better. I have had zero luck with Harper titles lately so maybe they're just saving the good ones for their sequels! :)

    4. I am a fellow VA lover and I absolutely adooooore both Wendy and Richelle. I got Sweet Peril as a paperback today *pets the pretttyyyyyy-hh* I love love love that Anna isn't a heroine who runs back and forth between guys and even though we know who she's gonna pick she's still clueless about who she loves more etc. No! It's all about Kai, baby, and I LOVE him. And what? Kope gets a girl, too? YES! I like him to pieces and I'm so glad for him. I cannot wait to read this baby and I'm so glad you shared your thoughts on this amazing series. Thank you, Aman!

Love Anna, she is so smart and I'm so proud of her for making the right decisions when it comes to Kai. And yeah, Kope got his own girl and I'm so happy for him. it's someone new but you'll know it the minute she is introduced, they had the chemistry. Oh, I'll be looking forward to your review, Siiri!

    6. OMG. I can't wait to read this one-- I absolutely devoured SWEET EVIL! I like the idea of Anna changing her looks and pretending to work-- it definitely makes me curious about what she's like now. I really like Kaiden! I think that my problem is that in reality, I would probably go for him. Oh no, right? o.O Awesome review, Aman!

    8. Best sequel? Wow, I really need to read this! I vaguely remember reading Sweet Evil - it didn't wow me or anything, but great characters and a mature romance that made sense? Eep! Must get my hands on this! Great review, Aman :D

    10. I love it when a book is absolutely perfect by your standards! This happens rarely, but it happens. I must admit I didn't have much luck with the first book, but probably because I tried it on audio and I disliked the narrator intensely. I promise to give it another try, on my Kindle this time.
I remember really liking Anna,so there's hope for us yet.
      Lovely review, Aman!

      1. I have never listened to any audio's because I'm a fast reader and audio books turn out to be very slow. Yeah, try it on kindle this time. I hope you enjoy it! I loved Anna in the first book, she was so mature for her age.
        Thanks!

    11. I've been meaning to read this for SO LONG, and I'm happy that you loved it a lot. And I can't wait to read about how Higgins handled the love triangle - thank God it's not cliche or anything like that.

Great review as always, Aman! :)

      1. I don't like love triangles that much because I always root for the other guy (like Seth, Ren and and in this one Kope), then I feel bad when they get heartbroken. BUT I loved how Wendy handled it in this one. I hope you get to read it soon, Lyra! Thanks :)

    12. Thank you for this review. I read the first book, and while I was incredibly intrigued by the demon mythology and the way that they spread their vices to the world, I was uncomfortable about Anna's attachment to Kai. The fact that he continue to work throughout the entire book, was hard for me - especially his specific sin - and though he had some moments at the end, it wasn't clear enough to me that he felt the same way about Anna as she did about him. I agree that Kope was a much better match for her - I like nice guys in real life too! However, I have been very interested (though cautious) to pick this one up and find out what happens next. I like that it sounds like Anna becomes stronger in this one, and that it doesn't fall into annoying love triangle traps. I will for sure be reading this book now. GREAT review.

      1. I know! I hated that he had to work, but Kai changed a lot in the second book. I was kinda surprised with his decision, but they did made me swoon *dreamy sigh* Yes! I love Kope! And I knew he would never get together with Anna, but I was really hoping he did. Though no complains about that after reading the sequel coz he did get himself a new girl. Eep, I'm so excited to read more about them! I'll be looking forward to your review, Lauren! Thanks :)

    13. Interesting…. I liked the first book. It was edgy in a good way and there was a lot of humor in it!
Will try to get to this one soon!

    16. I skimmed your review, Aman because I haven't read the first of the series yet. But I mean to change that! I've seen so many raving reviews and if you loved this one, too I'm even more excited!! :)

I think I liked Jenny @Supernatural Snark's cover the best for this book. Remember when they were doing a contest to pick the cover for this?

      1. I didn't knew there was a contest. Probably because that was the time I started blogging and wasn't really aware of the events, but I searched it on her website and I love it too. It's funny that she used the image that later turned out to be the cover of The Edge of Never.

    17. Am I the only one who hasn't read Sweet Evil yet? Gah, I must! This Kaidan really really has me intrigued from the cover itself (hey, and both the covers are very pretty)! A full 5 on 5 starts especially after seeing that the first book only an okay read is mind blowing! I'm glad you enjoyed Sweet Peril, Aman. Sweet Reckoning is an awesome title for the last book. Amazing review!
