Blog Tour: Home to Whiskey Creek by Brenda Novak

August 8, 2013
Hi everyone! I'm so excited to be a part of Home to Whiskey Creek Blog Tour organized by Lit Connect. I'm new to the Whiskey Creek series, but they sound so cute and romantic. I can't wait to get into it. I have a guest post and giveaway to share with you guys, but first lets see what the book is all about.

Sometimes home is the refuge you need-and sometimes it isn't.

Adelaide Davies, who's been living in Sacramento, returns to Whiskey Creek, the place she once called home. She's there to take care of her aging grandmother and to help with Gran's restaurant, Just Like Mom's. But Adelaide isn't happy to be back. There are too many people here she'd rather avoid, people who were involved in that terrible June night fifteen years ago.

Ever since the graduation party that changed her life, she's wanted to go to the police and make sure the boys responsible-men now-are punished. But she can't, not without revealing an even darker secret. So it's better to pretend....

Noah Rackham, popular, attractive, successful, is shocked when Adelaide won't have anything to do with him. He has no idea that his very presence reminds her of something she'd rather forget. He only knows that he's finally met a woman he could love.

Guest Post: Sneak Peak on Upcoming Books

It’s almost over! Only two days to go. Are you keeping up with me? How many gold mining related items have you found so far? There has been one on each post from Day 1. You’ll want to know what it is. You’ll also want to make a note of the character that features most prominently in each of the posts. You’ll input them on your scorecard tomorrow, when my blog tour ends, to claim your prize. Everyone with a perfect score wins a Whiskey Creek Fan Pack* so follow me through the whole 10-stop tour and claim yours! (If you’re starting late, you can get instructions at www.brendanovak.com, where you will also find the scorecard.)

Yesterday, I told you about one of the future books in the Whiskey Creek series. Today you’ll get another sneak peek on what might be coming up. I’ve had a lot of reader mail asking for Kyle’s story, so I will probably use him for Book 8 (or maybe I’ll reverse the order and put him as Book 7 and Riley as book 8). Kyle first showed up in the prequel, WHEN WE TOUCH, as the unhappy groom of Noelle Arnold, one of the true villains in Whiskey Creek. She stole him away from Olivia, her sister, and secured the deal by purposely getting pregnant. But she wasn’t too thrilled with married life, or the fact that her husband only married her in an attempt to do the right thing, so she sort of changed the game on him, and she and Kyle quickly divorced. (I don’t want to tell you too many details or it might give away too much from the previous books.) After his quick marriage and divorce, Kyle got involved with Callie (from WHEN SUMMER COMES). They tried to turn their close friendship into love, but it just didn’t work. And then Callie met Levi, and if you’ve read WHEN SUMMER COMES, you know what happened between them.

Kyle has a good head for business and is doing well financially. He owns a solar manufacturing plant outside of town. But he hasn’t been too lucky in love. Deep down, he’s still enamored with Noelle’s sister, Olivia, who is now married to his stepbrother. Karma is a…b…er…drag(!).

So…what could possibly be on the horizon for Kyle? I’ve thought about having him get together with Eve. They might make a great couple, especially because Eve is hoping to one day marry and have a family, and Kyle is ready, too—more than ready. But…I’m not sure Eve’s the right mate for Kyle. It didn’t work out so well when he tried to get with his other close friend, Callie.

I could try to redeem Noelle and get them back together (but I can already hear you booing and hissing, so no worries—I’m kidding!). I know! I could bring someone new to Whiskey Creek. Oh, that might be fun. I’m picturing a down-on-her-luck girl picking up temporary work at Sexy Sadie’s, hoping to get just enough money to keep moving on. With the right backstory and the right conflict that could work. He’s too “together” these days to match him with someone who’s also in a good place. But…what do you think? Who should Kyle end up with?

  2. I haven't met Kyle yet so I don't know who I want him to end up with, but based on this guest post I think it's safe to say I don't want him with Noelle:) I've seen several of the posts on this tour and each one has made me want to start this series more and more. Looking forward to meeting everyone, Kyle in particular:)

  3. Jenny, you can meet Kyle right away in WHEN WE TOUCH, the prequel novella to the series. You can get a FREE copy of it right away simply by entering my current giveaway at www.brendanovak.com. :-)

  4. Thanks for dropping by, Tanja! I got the name for Whiskey Creek from the era this fictional town was founded. It was founded in the gold rush and is in "gold country" here in Northern Cali, not far from where I live. These little towns have so much history and are so quaint. I love to visit them (both real and imagined--LOL).

  5. Oh, I saw that book on Netgalley!!!!! :O I love the cover:) I have the same problem as Jenny--haven't met Kyle so I can't really voice my opinion. I think that I should meet everyone and then voice my thoughts, but as for now.. Eve sounds like the obvious choice, but I think a new love interest would be awesome, too:)

  6. Would love to read Kyle's story. I would be happy with Eve, but always fun to bring in new characters into the town.

  7. I like your idea of hooking him up with someone from out of town...I think that would give you a lot of room to show who he is. I think that Kyle's character is a good person, to marrying a woman (a crazy one at that) who was trying to pretty much get back at her sister (I'm trying hard not to give a lot away for readers, too!). I would like to hear more about his and Brandon's relationship (and elaborate on why their relationship was strained from Kyle's side), how he ended up getting Noelle pregnant, the honeymoon, etc...I think there's a LOT of story to tell that would be really interesting to read.

That being said, I think telling Noelle's story would be interesting too. I think that if she had a "Darcy" moment (like from Emily Giffin's Something Blue) where the guy she meets sort of tells her like it is and is able to sort of 'change' her...Or Noelle gets a big smack of reality to make her be less of a .... you know what. Ha! But I think that there is something there with her that isn't quite what it seems...

  8. This sounds like such a cute series Aman! I like it when authors create a series, and focus on minor character from a previous book in their own book, as it gives you a great chance to get to know them more! Thanks for sharing this great post with us! :)

  9. First thought is that a woman down on her luck working until she can move on sounds too much like Levi. But that got me thinking of what "new" character you could find that would have a link, however tenuous, to Whiskey Creek. What about Ellen from When Summer Comes???? Could be some interesting dynamics there with her big brother.

  10. This does sound like a cute series. I've seen a few stops on the tour and it's definitely caught my attention!

  11. AHA! Finally a female model who isn't wearing (a) a dress (b) a short, skimpy shirt (c) skin-tight jeans, though I have nothing against that, but a longer-than-knee-length skirt! WITH FLOWERS. I hadn't heard of this book before now, but it sounds pretty interesting, albeit a bit unoriginal. That's probably just me being picky, though. ;)

  12. I think Kyle should be with someone new to Whiskey Creek. Maybe a sister to one of the others in the group. Someone who is unknown to the sibling, who was given up for adoption as a baby...a woman who wants to find her parent but the parent may or may not know she exists. That would be interesting. Or, she could just be someone passing through who needs money and/or has car problems and has to work to pay for the unexpected expense.

  13. I've read a Whiskey Creek short story once and it was cute. This series screams cute actually. Great post! I love what Megan has said in her comment!
