Sometimes the right choice can be the deadliest.

When Ellie Watt made the ultimate sacrifice for Camden McQueen, she never thought it would be easy. But walking away with her ex-lover, Javier Bernal, in order to ensure Camden’s safety has brought a whole new set of dangers. With Javier’s plans for Ellie growing more secretive by the moment, Ellie must find a way to stay ahead of the game before her past swallows her whole.

Meanwhile, Camden’s new life is short-lived. Fueled by revenge and pursued by authorities, he teams up with an unlikely partner in order to save Ellie. But as Camden toes the line between love and retribution, he realizes that in order to get back the woman he loves, he may have to lose himself in the process. He might just turn into the very man he’s hunting.

Told in dual POV from Camden and Ellie.
Review:

I had my doubts in the beginning, but after finishing this book I can safely say that I'm still Team Javier. It's crazy to root for a criminal, drug lord and a psychopath (all Ellie's words), but I can't help it. Javier is one of those people who stand out, even if it's for their dirty work and makes you addicted to them. There is no logical reasoning besides that I don't give a shit that he's bad, I still want Javier to win in the end. Even if the end is him being happy and safe.

Shooting Scars was a breathtaking sequel to Sins & Needle. It was unpredictable from start to finish. Surprising doesn't even cover my reaction towards the direction it went, I'm still amazed by some of the events that took place that I never saw coming and usually I'm very good at foreseeing such things. I'm in love with Shooting Scars, even more so than Sins &Needle simply because we got more Ellie and Javier and their equally sexy scenes. LOVE!

Shooting Scars picks up right after it's prequel ended, Ellie walked away with Javier and traded her life for Camden's ex-wife and kid. Camden is beyond pissed and after seeing his ex-wife's true colors, all he want is to rescue Ellie back from the hands of a monster (now that's Camden's words, what is wrong with these characters?). Where he's teaming up with Gus on one side, Javier wants Ellie to help him with something on the other. The story on both sides was always fast-paced and super addicting, there was never a moment of boredom. I loved the addition of dual POV's, initially I wasn't interested in Camden's because I'm not his fan, but I still enjoyed knowing how he was handling himself in those tough situations, and I have to say that Camden really impressed me with his character development. He started as an amateur person in this mafia/drug cartel world, but he really grew some balls by the end and learned how to fight dirty. The tattoo machine scene--YIKES! I might have nightmares about that.

Seeing Camden's inner darkness really made me sway in his direction, but I'm definitely Team Javier for now, no doubt in that. Although I wasn't that happy with Ellie, she came off as an indecisive character, not the strong, kickass girl I'm used to, but I'm still cheering for her and really looking forward to see the next part of her dangerous journey. Shooting Scars was an exhilarating read and perfect for fans of darker and more sexier contemporaries.

  1. Breathtaking and unexpected? Sounds like my kind of book! I'm also very intrigued by Javier - so far I can't think of a single villain-like character I can be a huge fan of (excluding the Darkling, of course), so he's pretty interesting. I'm still not sure if this series will be for me, but I've been hearing loads of positive things about the books, so I might check them out in the future. Lovely review as always, Aman!

  2. Oooo I've heard such good things about Sins & Needles Aman, I definitely need to give this series a try. I love darker books even though I often get super nervous before I pick them up, but I'm intrigued by Javier and want to see what he's all about. Hopefully Ellie is back to her usual more decisive, kickass self in the next book! Awesome review:)

  3. People are raving about this series and I have the first one, but I fear that it would be too much of a love triangle. This is the second review I've read and the first was all about Team Camden, so I'm sort of freaking out. BUT it looks pretty awesome all the way around besides. I like that these characters are all morally ambiguous and willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish their goals.

  4. Javi has my heart!! Love that crazy guy. Glad I'm not the only insane girl out there. Great review, Aman. My view on Camden has changed as well, I like the new tougher side of him.

  8. I'm glad you're Team Javier, Aman because then I don't have to share Camden! Lol! I loved this one too, as you know Aman. I had the same feelings for Ellie, I wanted to give that girl a good shake! I can't wait for the next book because this is one of my all-time favorite series. At least October isn't too far away and hopefully we'll get an ARC! Excellent review! :)

  10. Hahaha! It's not crazy at all to root for a criminal, drug lord and psychopath. It reminds me of Britney's Criminal. I'm humming it as I type this! Anyhow, music aside, I've had my eyes on this series since long especially since I got to know it's contemporary and I'm so glad you enjoyed the book. I'm definitely going to try my best to read it now! I am in the mood for dark and sexy, so yeah. Fabulous review, Aman!
